2000 Annual Membership Meeting
Mayor
Rudolph W. Giuliani served as the featured speaker at the Building
Congress Annual Membership Meeting in January, 2000, attended by more
than 400 executives in design, construction and real estate.
Jeffrey M. Levy, President and Chief Operating Officer of EMCOR
Group, Inc., was elected Building Congress Chairman during the meeting,
succeeding John A. Cavanagh, Vice Chairman of Morse Diesel International.
Also elected were six new members of the Board of Directors. Building
Congress President Richard T. Anderson thanked Mr. Cavanagh for
his distinguished service, and Mayor Giuliani formally recognized
his dedication to New York City and the building community.
During
his remarks, Mayor Giuliani advocated large-scale development on
Manhattan's West Side, including construction of a domed stadium
and other facilities to be included in the City's bid to host the
2012 Olympic Summer Games. He also pledged to lobby the State Legislature
to extend the successful Lower Manhattan Revitalization Plan to
Brooklyn, Queens and parts of the Bronx.
"We are now creating jobs at a higher
rate than the United States...A lot of it has to do with your industry"
