Membership and Financial Report
The
successful 1999 Building Congress Membership Campaign resulted in
33 new members and 35 upgrades. Membership income for the year reached
a record $604,500. Since 1996, membership has grown by more than 50
percent. Building Congress members represent more than 150,000 professionals
and skilled workers from 325 organizations in design, construction
and real estate.
Financing for Building Congress programs and committees is divided
equally between dues and net income from events and activities.
Overall revenue in 1999 totaled $1,668,000, an increase of $54,000
from the prior year. Expenditures for the year reached $1,452,000.
1999 was the fifth consecutive year in which the organization realized
an operating surplus.
Now that the Building Congress has strengthened its finances and
achieved its goal of one year's operating expenses in reserve, it
has greater program flexibility and the ability to serve the industry
and membership in new and better ways. Two recent initiatives include
the publication of the 2000 Membership Directory and inauguration
of the Building Congress Web site, www.buildingcongress.com.
