New York Building Congress Statement
of Ethics and Responsibility
The Building Congress represents the interests of the greater
building community of New York City and its environs through the
membership of individuals, companies and organizations, including
contractors, architects, engineers, unions, real estate managers,
developers, owners and associations.
The Building Congress promotes the growth and success of the construction
industry and the responsible development of the region, and strives
to maintain and broaden the publics confidence in the construction
industry.
- The New York Building Congress involves a membership dedicated
to honesty, integrity and fair dealing. This Statement of Ethics
and Responsibility expresses the particular commitments expected
of Building Congress membership. Membership in the New York Building
Congress is voluntary. By accepting membership, a member commits
to adherence to the principles set forth in this Statement.
- Members shall conduct all their business in an honest and ethical
manner, abiding
the requirements of laws and regulations.
- Members are committed to refraining from any act discreditable
to the industry.
Councils and Committees
Architects Leadership Council
Composed of New York Citys largest architectural firms, members
advise the Building Congress on key design issues facing the industry
and the City.
Council of Presidents
The Council of Presidents includes leaders of organizations and
associations from throughout New Yorks design, construction
and real estate community.
Economic Development Committee
Monitors and evaluates City and State economic development policies,
procedures and incentives as well as conditions that impede or assist
private-sector construction.
Energy Committee
Focuses on key energy issues for New York City and recently released
a report entitled Electricity Outlook:A Call to Action that details
the Citys need for additional electric generating capacity
and enhanced conservation programs.
Environment Committee
Considers the impact of regulatory procedures on economic development,
opportunities for resource-conserving design and environmental construction
programs.
Communications and Membership Committee
Seeks to retain, upgrade, and increase membership support and involvement
while contributing to efforts to promote the industrys accomplishments.
Public Agency Council
Composed of leaders of Federal, State, City and regional infrastructure
organizations in New York City, the Council promotes productive
interaction between these organizations and senior industry representatives.
Public Buildings Committee
Reviews design and construction of institutional facitlities in
New York City and helps the Building Congress express strong support
for the funding of rehabilitation and construction.
Public Procurement Committee
Focuses on government procurement and public construction procedures
with the purpose of finding ways to make the process more efficient
and productive.
Transportation & Infrastructure
Committee
Evaluates the City of New York Capital Budget and capital programs
of the MTA, Port Authority
of New York and New Jersey, and the NYSDOT.
The Building Congress also creates ad hoc task forces to deal with
specific issues as needed.
