Robust Building Activity in Every Borough

New York City and the building industry have entered into a grand era of construction, the breadth and pace of which has not been experienced since World War II.

“From small scale residential conversions to major office developments and billion dollar infrastructure projects, New York City is being dramatically reshaped and, if the trend continues, is positioning itself to accommodate the millions of additional residents and jobs that are projected over the coming decades,” said New York Building Congress President Richard T. Anderson. “We’re building better lives for New Yorkers by transforming the face of our City,” Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg said recently. “We are creating and preserving housing, reclaiming our long-abandoned and neglected waterfront, and making over entire communities – from the Bronx, to Brooklyn, to Manhattan’s Far West Side.”

“Given the robustness and diversity of the current construction boom, it seems likely that the coming years will be exceptionally strong for this industry and for this City,” Anderson continued.  “The challenge today is to ensure – during this period of intense construction – that we maintain and strengthen our ability to build safely, efficiently and effectively.

At the same time, it is critical that all of this planned investment is coordinated and leveraged tomaximize positive impact for the residents and economic future of New York City.”
