  • November 6, 2007 - Building Congress Supports MTA Fare Increase; Urges All Congestion Pricing Proceeds be Reserved for Transit Capital Improvements.

  • July 10, 2007 - In late June and with little fanfare, the New York City Council, by near unanimous vote, adopted a comprehensively updated and revised New York City Building Code.

  • June 27, 2007 - The New York State Legislature ended its session on June 21 without coming to resolution on key issues affecting the City’s economic future, quality of life and the design, construction and real estate industry.

  • June 11, 2007 - On May 31, the Governors Island Preservation and Education Corp. (GIPEC) unveiled competing designs for a new park and promenade for Governors Island, in the center of New York Harbor. Five teams submitted their conceptual ideas for a new two mile Great Promenade, a new park at the southern end of the Island and rejuvenated landscapes in the Island’s Historic District.

  • June 4, 2007 - New York City Construction Spending to Top $25 Billion In 2007, According to Interim Update of New York Building Congress Construction Outlook. Non-Residential Construction Rose by 93 Percent in 2006;Residential Construction Holding Steady.

  • May 17, 2007 - The New York Building Congress endorsed the City’s plan to rezone 368 blocks of Jamaica, Queens, one of the Bloomberg Administration’s largest rezoning initiatives to date, in a recent letter to Queens Borough President Helen M. Marshall.

  • May 4, 2007 - The Bloomberg administration's comprehensive, five-year effort, led by the City's Department of Buildings and Commissioner Patricia A. Lancaster, to update and improve New York City's arcane building code, has yielded an excellent proposal worthy of the design, construction and real estate industry's full support and swift adoption by the New York City Council.

  • April 26, 2007 - On May 1st, the NYC Department of Buildings is kicking off Construction Safety Week 2007, a series of events and educational forums aimed at fostering awareness of safe and compliant construction practices. The Department invites you to attend the events below.

  • March 28, 2007 - On March 27, NJ TRANSIT held a public hearing on the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) for the Access to the Region’s Core (ARC) project. Building Congress President, Richard T. Anderson, testified at the March 27 hearing, supporting construction of a new trans-Hudson rail tunnel (THE Tunnel). In the testimony, the Building Congress said that increasing transit capacity across the Hudson River between Midtown Manhattan and New Jersey is critical to alleviating growing congestion and advancing the economic competitiveness of the region. Building THE Tunnel is the right solution to accomplish that goal.

  • February 13, 2007 - The New York City building industry, which encompasses the design, construction and real estate sectors, is one of the region’s leading economic engines; a key contributor to the region’s quality of life; and a positive reflection of a dynamic City that is being transformed economically, physically and demographically.

2006

  • September 6, 2006 - Preventing Future Blackouts - A Statement from the New York Building Congress Energy Committee.

  • August 8, 2006 - As we did with the Transportation Bond Act last fall, our industry is coming together again for an important cause. On September 13, 2006, the Building Congress is joining the American Council of Engineering Companies, the American Institute of Architects, the General Contractors Association of New York, the Building & Construction Trades Council, the Building Trades Employers’ Association, and the New York Roadway Improvement Council, to support Eliot Spitzer’s candidacy for Governor.

2005
