Industry Applauded for Memorial
Support
At a press conference on October 20, Governor
George E. Pataki and the World Trade Center Memorial Foundation announced
significant progress on fundraising to build the memorial at the
World Trade Center site.
As part of the announcement, Governor Pataki
recognized the New York Building Foundation, represented by Building
Foundation and Building Congress President Richard T. Anderson,
as one of the earliest supporters of the Memorial fundraising effort.
The Building Foundation’s contribution of $50,000 was the
final payment from its own World Trade Center Memorial Fund, which
was established shortly after September 11, 2001. Altogether, almost
$500,000 was received and distributed from the Fund, which helped
support family members of building industry workers who perished
on 9/11, as well as family members of the City’s emergency
responders.
“The inspiration for this fund was the overwhelming desire
expressed by many of our colleagues to help those in our industry
and beyond who were harmed by the terrorist attacks,” said
Building Foundation Chairman John F. Hennessy III. “We
are grateful for the generosity of all of the Fund’s donors and heartened
by the knowledge that our gifts have provided some measure of support and
remembrance for the families of victims.”
