As part of a continuing effort to work more closely with local elected officials, leaders of the New York Building Congress met in November with four of the early candidates to succeed Gifford Miller as Speaker of the New York City Council.

The individual breakfast meetings, which were open to the Building Congress Board of Directors, Chairman’s Club, President’s Council, Director’s Council and Council of Presidents, featured: General Welfare Committee Chair Bill de Blasio; Land Use Committee Chair Melinda R. Katz; Finance Committee Chair David I. Weprin; and Health Committee Chair Christine C. Quinn.

“Given the rapid turnover in the City Council’s membership and leadership in an age of term limits, it is increasingly important that we acquaint potential leaders with the goals of the Building Congress coalition and hear their perspective on the City’s legislative priorities,” said Building Congress President Richard T. Anderson. “We look forward to working together with the next Council Speaker, as well as the Bloomberg administration, to foster long-term.
