City Council Speaker Candidates
Address Building Congress
As part of a continuing effort to work more closely with local elected officials,
leaders of the New York Building Congress met in November with four of the
early candidates to succeed Gifford Miller as Speaker of the New York City
Council.
The individual breakfast meetings, which were open to the Building
Congress Board of Directors, Chairman’s Club, President’s Council,
Director’s
Council and Council of Presidents, featured: General Welfare Committee Chair
Bill de Blasio; Land Use Committee Chair Melinda R. Katz; Finance Committee
Chair David I. Weprin; and Health Committee Chair Christine C. Quinn.
“Given
the rapid turnover in the City Council’s membership and leadership
in an age of term limits, it is increasingly important that we acquaint potential
leaders with the goals of the Building Congress coalition and hear their
perspective on the City’s legislative priorities,” said Building
Congress President Richard T. Anderson. “We look forward to working
together with the next Council Speaker, as well as the Bloomberg administration,
to foster long-term.
