New York Building Congress Salutes Four Extraordinary Industry and Government Leaders

2007 Industry Recognition Dinner Honors John M. Dionisio, Mary-Jean Eastman, Susan L.Hayes and Mysore L. Nagaraja

Nearly 1,100 members of the building community gathered to pay tribute to four industry greats during the New York Building Congress 2007 Industry Recognition Dinner at
the Grand Hyatt New York on November 14. AECOM President/CEO John M. Dionisio, Perkins Eastman Architects Principal and Director Mary-Jean Eastman and Cauldwell Wingate Company President/CEO Susan L. Hayes were presented with Industry Recognition Awards, while a Special Recognition Award was given to MTA Capital Construction President Mysore L. Nagaraja.

During the annual gala event, which recognizes the brilliant careers and dedicated civic leadership of New York City’s foremost members of the design, construction and real estate industry, each recipient took time to reflect on the tremendous teamwork and inspiration they draw from their colleagues, which they said is instrumental in their accomplishments.

New York City Buildings Commissioner Patricia Lancaster read a letter of greeting from Mayor Bloomberg to the assembled guests. The letter read in part,“The Building Congress has been instrumental in the continuing growth and evolution of our City in the 86 years since its inception. The next few decades will be a period of extraordinary growth for our City, as we add a million residents and set in motion innovative programs that will dramatically improve our City’s environment and infrastructure. The efforts of the Building Congress and the many professionals it represents will be crucial in our City’s success in creating a greener, greater New York, improving the quality of life of all New Yorkers.”

Dinner Chairman Salvatore Mancini, who is President/CEO of Skanska USA Civil, presented the Industry Recognition Award to Mr. Dionisio. “John is a New Yorker through and through, with degrees from City College of New York and Polytechnic Institute of New York. Today, he leads a global company with over 31,000 employees worldwide and annual revenue of $4 billion. His thirty-year career has included many important New York projects, including his present work with the Second Avenue Subway and the new World Trade Center PATH Terminal in Lower Manhattan.”

During his acceptance, Mr. Dionisio said, “As a proud New Yorker, this is a very special honor for me. While my career has taken me around the world many times over, New York City is my home – personally and professionally.” He added, “I accept this recognition on behalf of the men and women of AECOM who are contributing to the continued growth and development of New York City. Time and again, our professionals tell me how proud and honored they are to work on some of the City’s most exciting and iconic projects.”

In presenting the award to Susan Hayes, Building & Construction Trades Council of Greater New York President Edward J. Malloy said, “Under her leadership, Cauldwell Wingate has grown and prospered into one of New York’s leading construction companies. She is a tireless advocate for women in our industry and has pursued that goal with utmost dedication.”

Ms. Hayes used her remarks to praise Mr. Nagaraja, MTA Executive Director and CEO Elliot Sander, Mr. Malloy and Building Congress President Richard T. Anderson for their steadfast efforts to recruit women into the industry and for providing forums for greater representation and recognition of the field’s most accomplished women. She then asked every woman in attendance who works in the industry to stand up, before saying, “I share this recognition with all of you.”

Building Congress Chairman and STV Chairman/CEO Dominick M. Servedio presented the Industry Recognition Award to Mary-Jean Eastman. He said, “Throughout her career, Mary-Jean has developed a reputation for design excellence in healthcare, justice facilities and institutional interiors and has been at the forefront of major projects in New York City and around the country.”

Ms. Eastman noted that she first moved to New York City from Canada in 1977 to work on
the City’s 1984 Olympic Bid and contrasted that difficult period in the City’s history with the
optimism and strength New York enjoys today. She went on to say, “Thank you to the Building Congress. You have brought so many wonderful women into this organization.”

Mr. Mancini presented the Special Recognition Award to Mysore Nagaraja, who was being
honored for his exceptional public service career at the MTA. Mr. Mancini said, “I can sum up Mysore Nagaraja in a few words - on time, on budget and in New York City. Mysore, you are
the Robert Moses of today.”

Referencing the MTA’s ambitious capital program and the hundred billion dollars worth of construction projected for the City in the coming years, Mr. Nagaraja, who recently announced he will return to the private sector after more than 22 years in public service, said, “Delivery of all these projects is a major challenge, but we can and have to do it. I look forward to working with you in the future to make it happen.”

The evening also included a video that spotlighted the industry as well as each honoree’s accomplishments, and performances by the Leonisa Ardizzone Quintet.

“Each year, we salute the extraordinary leadership and professional accomplishments of top leaders in our industry. Including this year, we have honored 34 exceptional individuals
from design, construction, real estate and government,” said Building Congress President Richard T. Anderson.“Our thanks to our Dinner Chairman Salvatore Mancini, as well as to our Executive Co-Chairmen Jane Chmielinski, George Leventis, Lawrence Roman, Frank Sciame, Dominick Servedio and Daniel Tishman for their exceptional work in making this evening
the most successful yet.”
