Over the past 15 years, the New York Building Foundation has helped the industry, the City and its residents through generous support for disaster response and community projects, promotion of clean and safe worksites, grants for students pursuing careers in the building professions, and research on the positive impact of building activity and infrastructure investment.

To follow is a brief summary of the Foundation's recent accomplishments and ongoing activities.

HURRICANE SANDY RECOVERY
Established in November 2012, the Building Foundation's Hurricane Sandy Recovery Fund has raised more than a quarter of a million dollars to help assist affected families, support selected recovery programs, and sponsor valuable research. In the immediate aftermath of the storm, the Fund worked to distribute individual grants to employees of Building Congress members who sustained losses as a direct result of the hurricane. Moving forward, the Fund is sponsoring and directing research on ways to improve infrastructure planning and design, and distributing grants to help rebuild community facilities.

According to Building Foundation Chairman Frank J. Sciame, "Together with public officials at all levels, the Foundation is stressing the need not just to restore or rebuild, but to re-imagine how New York can continue to excel in a world where climate change - along with population growth and technological advances - are rapidly challenging the status quo."

EDUCATION
Supporting the development of the next generation of industry leaders is a primary Building Foundation mission. The Foundation's Hennessy Fund provides opportunities and funding for professional fellowships and student internships within the design, construction, and real estate community. The Foundation sponsors several annual scholarships through the ACE Mentor Program and other organizations, while also providing funding to Nontraditional Employment for Women and the Urban Assembly School of Design and Construction.

RESEARCH AND ANALYSIS
Seeking to better serve the industry and inform the public on issues surrounding public and private sector building, the Foundation has made research and analysis a central part of its efforts. Foundation publications are often quoted by a wide range of leading public officials, as well as in news articles and editorials published by virtually every daily newspaper in New York City and in leading trade publications.

CONSTRUCTION FOR A LIVABLE CITY
This signature initiative seeks to improve worksite quality and ensure better coordination between site operators and the surrounding community. Throughout the program, New York's leading developers and major construction firms vow to go above and beyond in managing their worksite practices so that each site is safer, cleaner, and friendlier to the surrounding community.
