New York Building Foundation Awards $130,000 in Grants to Support Professional Development & Education in the Design, Construction & Real Estate Industries

The New York Building Foundation the charitable arm of the New York Building Congress, awarded $130,000 in grants to programs in 2019.

Formed in 1998 to promote the well-being of the building industry and wider New York City community, the Building Foundation issues grants to non-profit organizations involved with the advancement of the design, construction and real estate industries. The organizations awarded grants in 2019 were:  ACE Mentor Program; Beverly Willis Architecture Foundation; Center for Architecture; Center for Employment Opportunities; The Cooper Union; Manhattan College; Nontraditional Employment for Women; NY Helmets to Hardhats; NYU Tandon, K-12 Center for STEM; Rebuild by Design; Rebuilding Together NYC; Salvadori Center; and the Waterfront Alliance.

With this last round of grants, the Building Foundation continues its focus on helping to build a diverse pipeline of talent and attracting new groups to opportunities in the building industry.

Since its inception, the Foundation has raised and distributed over $2 million for activities that include educational programs aimed at developing interest in the industry among elementary and high school students; scholarships for students of all ages to pursue careers in the building professions and trades; programs to encourage clean, safe worksites; and research on issues impacting both the building industry and the city’s economic future.

The Building Foundation accepts grant applications twice during each calendar year. The spring submission period runs from March 1 through May 31 and the fall submission period runs from August 1 through October 31.
