Statement on NY Gov. Hochul's FY2025 Executive Budget

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: January 16, 2024

“Gov. Hochul has again laid out an aggressive agenda designed to address our critical housing and infrastructure needs across the state that can steer us towards an even stronger, more accessible, and more equitable New York,” said Carlo A. Scissura, Esq., President and CEO of the New York Building Congress. “The governor rightly zeroes in on the solution — we need ‘shovels in the ground!’ The State is doing what it can to build much-needed housing on properties it owns, and Building Congress’ members are ready to work with cities and towns across the state to ensure residents get the homes they so desperately need, along with the good-paying construction jobs they deserve.

Just as we invest in housing and jobs, the State must continue to invest in the infrastructure that New Yorkers rely on every day. From transit to healthcare to sustainability, we are especially pleased to see many top Building Congress priorities in Gov. Hochul’s budget, including:

  • $500 million over two years to support clean water infrastructure, raising the State’s total investment to $5.5 billion.
  • $435 million in resiliency infrastructure to protect communities from severe flooding
  • $45 million in funding to advance design and engineering for the Interborough Express.
  • The Building Congress looks forward to bringing our continued advocacy for these and other high-priority policies to Albany this session to ensure that this Executive Budget becomes a brighter future for all New Yorkers.
