The New York Building Congress, with support from its charitable arm, the New York Building Foundation, has established itself as a key resource for timely, relevant, and reliable information on the current and future state of New York's construction industry.

Using a wide range of current economic and construction data sources, the Building Congress serves its members, the industry, and policymakers by analyzing emerging trends in infrastructure and private development throughout the five boroughs.

Building Congress publications, which average more than two a month, are quickly delivered directly to members, government officials, the media, and other interested parties through email blasts, the Building Congress website, and periodic direct member mailings.

New York City Construction Outlook 2011-2013

This annual forecast and analysis, which focuses on three years of construction spending and employment, remains a Building Congress signature publication. Widely circulated among business, labor, and policy communities, the forecast serves as a barometer for the City's economy and is widely quoted by elected officials, civic leaders, and journalists. This year's installment will be released at an October Construction Industry Forum.

New York City Construction Outlook Update

Now in its third year, the Building Congress New York Construction Outlook Update series accesses real-time data on a range of leading building industry indicators to provide a monthly snapshot of conditions and trends affecting all industry sectors. The electronic publication, which blends raw data with timely commentary, has focused recently on issues such as stalled projects, industry employment, workforce demographics, construction costs, and federal stimulus funding.

Infrastructure Update

In early 2010, the Building Congress launched Infrastructure Update, a data-driven monthly analysis of key infrastructure policy and budgetary programs. The electronic publication examines the prospects for and challenges facing all of the various city, state, regional, and federal entities entrusted with the maintenance and expansion of the City's key infrastructure systems. Recent editions have focused on capital budgets of the City of New York, Metropolitan Transportation Authority, Port Authority of New York & New Jersey, and the City's School Construction Authority, as well as prospects for reauthorization of federal surface transportation funding legislation.

(e)Update

In keeping with the need for members, policymakers, and the news media to remain up-to-date on late-breaking developments and industry priorities, the Building Congress continues to publish periodic (e)Updates. Recent editions of the electronic publication, which combine policy updates with a call to action, have focused on the New York State budget crisis, transportation investments, including replacing Access to the Region's Core, and public-private partnerships.

An archive of Building Congress research publications can be found at www.buildingcongress.com, however, some are restricted to members only. For information about membership see page 23 of this report or call 212.481.9230.
