Annual Report 2009
2008 Event Highlights
New York Building Congress influence and prominence can be measured, in part, by the continued participation in its events of a wide array of industry leaders as well as government officials at all levels. From policy forums to awards galas, Building Congress activities offer rare opportunities for New York's best and brightest to debate issues, salute their colleagues' achievements, and network with associates in every industry sector.
Highlights of the 2008 Construction Industry Forum series included: one of Governor David A. Paterson's first major infrastructure speeches; newly-installed Port Authority Executive Director Christopher O. Ward's vision for the region's transportation network; and a joint appearance by Congressmen Jerrold Nadler and James Oberstar, previewing this year's federal transportation funding reauthorization. The Bloomberg administration was also well represented with presentations by Deputy Mayor Robert C. Lieber, Planning Commission Chair Amanda M. Burden, FAICP, and EDC President Seth W. Pinsky.
More than 2,000 New Yorkers joined the Building Congress to pay tribute to a group of men and women whose extraordinary professional and personal contributions have helped shape and improve the City. Honorees at the 87th Anniversary Leadership Awards Luncheon and 2008 Industry Recognition Dinner included Jack Rudin, Amanda M. Burden, FAICP, Larry A. Silverstein, Denis M. Hughes, Maureen A. Henegan, Dominick M. Servedio P.E., Richard L. Tomasetti P.E., and David J. Burney.
The New York Building Foundation hosted its first annual Premier Wine Dinner and its annual Theatre Benefit, featuring a performance of Billy Elliot and honoring NYU Schack Institute of Real Estate Dean D. Kenneth Patton.
Those events, as well as the Building Congress annual Golf Outing, provided significant networking opportunities while raising funds to support the ongoing and expanding work of the Foundation
