Infrastructure

Virtually everywhere one looks, there is evidence of government leaders making the difficult choices necessary to build for the future. The Metropolitan Transportation Authority began the Second Avenue Subway and #7 line extension in 2007. The Port Authority and NJ Transit are in the initial stages of a $7 billion effort to build a new commuter rail tunnel under the Hudson River. New York City and State, working with Amtrak and the private sector, have announced plans to build two new grand rail stations at the current site of Penn Station and across the street in the Farley Post Office.

Through the School Construction Authority and thanks to an infusion of new capital, modern classrooms are being produced throughout the five boroughs. Progress on and completion of complex infrastructure projects, such as the Third Water Tunnel and the Newtown Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant, are helping modernize critical municipal systems.
