Annual Report 2008
Sports Facilities
At the start of the decade, New York City's major sports venues were best known as iconic yet aging structures. Whereas other cities were erecting modern and architecturally distinct venues, New York City lagged behind. While elaborate and forwardlooking plans for a new stadium on the West Side of Manhattan were championed, they ultimately failed.
Times have changed dramatically. Both the Yankees and Mets are moving swiftly toward completion of magnificent new stadia in their historic Bronx and Queens homes. The
NFL's Jets and Super Bowl Champion Giants have teamed up for a major new facility in the Meadowlands. And by the start of the next decade, the Nets will be playing in a modern new arena in Brooklyn.
